Dan On a Rampage

WHAT? Who the hell is ragingshutthehellup? You have people that read yours? No one reads mine...or maybe I should check it. No way. Pawns? Chess? The thing with chess is, that all the pieces except the queen are frustrate cause they can't evolve and learn new tricks. The rooks are pissed because they're labled as meathead...always attacking things straight on. The bishops are criticized for having no spine- cause they never deal with things head on or directly. They always take some crooked sideways approach to dealing with their problems and no one sees them coming. They're the back stabbers of the game. And the night (horsey) is the pretty boy. He's always dancing...always dancing. And you're like "QUIT MESSIN' AROUND AND PLAY THE GAME LIKE EVERY OTHER PIECE"...but Noooo, it just keeps dancing. And the king's pissed cause he's kept on a short leash by his wife, the queen. SO, in short, you need approach problems like a rook, be a free spirit like the horsey (knight), sneek out of things like a bishop, and never marry a queen- cut that damn leash. SHit, i forgot about the pawn...ignore him, he sucks.

Chess Pieces

If the game of chess is supposed to be equivalent to life, then where are the analogies for the rest of the pieces? Chess consist of many characters that influence the game, just as life has many influences that change daily decisions. Kings and pawns are determined by the beholder, so have at it haus.

Decisive Comments by MEGG

Are humans not already responsible for their actions? But, perhaps it is true that our society cradles certain people protectively and disregards others...but is that also not the product of one's choices and responsibilities in the first place? Can success equal hierarchy through merit? Maybe this is what youre saying though...that whatever happens to a person is his or her choice, so no one deserves "special treatment..." a little laissez-faire or social darwinism for you. Is that what this means? Or maybe this philosophy is more abstract than the society we have created for ourselves...so how does it play into democracy? To refer to your second point I believe it should be questioned...how does a king or queen become a king or queen? Is power not synomous with power of the people, these so-called "pawns?" Could this be the process by which some of us become kings and queens? And what is your stance on "playing to win?" Who wins in this society - the rich, the intelligent, the powerful, the beautiful, etc.?

~this ultimately led to a coversation that involved a few "holy shits" and a few "thats not answerable". Ending with the best argument of all . . . . ."its not in the answering that we succeed, but in the thinking about it"-----Megg

I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving. To reach the port of Heaven, we must sail, sometimes with the wind and sometime against it---but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.
